Itinerary

Visit Edinburgh Castle and explore the towering fortress that overlooks the Scottish capital. The 12th century castle has a vital place in the history of Scotland with tales of royals, sieges and battles just waiting to be discovered!

You are then free to explore this magnificent stronghold and the various sections of the castle. Free guided tours are available, departing from a number of points throughout the day.

Pay a visit to the spectacular Great Hall of James IV, completed in 1511, and stand under the hammerbeam roof. The lavish rooms of the Royal Palace were home to Scotland’s royalty and you will be able to walk through the fine rooms, imagining the people who lived here hundreds of years ago. Learn about the Scottish monarchs who once walked the hallways, including Queen Margaret and Mary Queen of Scots.

Other Edinburgh Castle highlights include the Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny, where the Kings of Scotland were enthroned for centuries, and St Margaret’s Chapel. This chapel is the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh! You can also visit the National War Museum and Regimental Museums to discover 400 years of Scotland at war and the country’s oldest regiments.
